STOGIE GUYS

Yesterday, there was a great and important post that everyone should read about Cigar Beetles. If you care about your stogies, YOU HAVE TO READ THIS.

Nub Habano

Nub Habano

NUB HABANO

Strength: Medium to Full
Wrapper: Habano
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Style: 460

You know that annoying local mom and pops commercial that you cant stand? If you live in the Washington D.C. area think of Eastern Motors. (lol) That’s what “Nub Cigars” remind me of, a very annoying commercial. They have become so annoying to me and to the cigar industry, that I almost didn’t want to smoke one. I am tired of hearing about these fat midget cigars, but im finally going to give it a fair shot. As always, Im going into this with an open mind and im hoping for a wonderful cigar. Allow me to share with you my review on the Nub Habano.

Besides the size of the cigar, which looks like a D size battery. The wrapper in the Habano really stands out. It’s really glossy with some shine to it and also has a very smooth texture. No noticeable veins, no mess ups, nice beautiful color and im really impressed with the quality of the wrapper. It’s definitely a different looking cigar and from a business/marketing aspect, it was a very smart move.

There’s a sweet smell of Honey on the wrapper and a little bit of Pepper. Even though the foot of the cigar is huge, I didn’t get any noticeable scent, only a soft tobacco aroma. The cut on the cap was really smooth and very clean and the constructon of the cigar was close to perfect. So far so good. Lets find out about the flavors …. Shall we?

The Nub Habano starts off with a Sweet, Earthy and Nutty flavor profile, followed by a creamy undertone. The aftertaste was very Woodsy and I hate to do this, but the Nub Habano reminds me exactly how one of my favorite cigars start. And that cigar is the Punch Rare Corojo. That alone is a huge compliment because that is one amazing cigar. Smoking away and moving along, lots of things change. The beginning flavors go away quickly and it changes to a Earthy and Grassy flavor. Its still okay, but just not as good. Which is a huge disappointment because I was really enjoying the cigar and the flavors in the beginning. I didn’t keep on smoking much longer because the flavors I was enjoying were all gone. Remember, I said it starts like the Punch Rare Corojo and that’s it.

Even though the cigar ended extremely boring, through out the whole cigar your palate stays fresh. There’s no harsh smoke feeling on your throat and its very easy to smoke. The aroma is very sweet and its followed by tons of smoke.

I was really impressed with the construction of the Nub Habano. Because of its size I was expecting the worse when it came to the burn and draw, but it was perfect through out the whole cigar. And yes, of course like the pictures we’ve seen, the ash is a 10 and does a perfect hand stand.

Final Note: Just like its size, the flavors fall short. It started off so good, but falls flat so quickly. And because of that I have no plans on smoking this cigar again. I want something more long lasting and definitely something way more consistent. Just because you can do a hand stand doesn’t make you great, I smoke for flavors, aroma and enjoyment, not for you to impress me with your construction.

Gourmet Flames and Stogie Review Fundraiser!

im all about a good cause. Anytime i can help, im all for it. Mike (Gourmet Flames) and Jerry (Stogie Review) have a wonderful fundraiser going and i wanted to help spread the word! Here’s some more info provided by Mike. Good Luck Guys!

Gourmet Flames

First, a sincere thank you to Dennis for being so kind as to allow me space on his awesome site, a true Brother of the Leaf. Second, let me introduce myself. Some of you know me as Click2Riff over at cigarlive.com and the stogiereview.com forums (or twitter for that matter). As Jerry would say, I’m “Mike in West Virginia”. I have the humble honor of helping Jerry from StogieReview.com raise money for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Research and Awareness in memory of his late son JJ. We are reaching out to the folks in the cigar world because, frankly, you’re the most generous, thoughtful, and giving group of people we’ve come across.

In order to participate, head on over to www.gourmetflames.com and place an order under the Shop Online tab on the top of the page. During the checkout process, there will be an option to type in a code (SR2008). This will help me track all orders placed for this cause. I am donating 50% of the proceeds to an organization chosen by Jerry and his wife called First Candle, in memory of JJ. The remaining proceeds will be donated to various adoption agencies around West Virginia. I was in fact adopted as an infant, and I fully understand the unconditional love I received from a parent having to give up a child.

I operate www.gourmetflames.com Home of Mia Bella Gourmet Candles. These are made from a proprietary blend of soy and renewable resources and provides a virtually soot-free, cleaner burning candle. We currently have over 90 available fragrances, something for everyone. Every time you light one of these candles, please take a moment to remember that your purchase helps a serious cause.

There will be more information as we go along, so stay tuned.

Thank you all, in advance, for your support.

Perdomo Habano Maduro

Perdomo Habano Maduro

PERDOMO HABANO MADURO

Strength: Medium to Full
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Style: Toro

I wasn’t enjoying cigars until I had my first Maduro. Now Maduros take over 88% of my humidor, I absolutely love them. I’m also a big fan of Perdomo cigars. Put the two together and you get one happy Stogie Baby. It’s like a one two punch. Your favorite dinner plate followed by your favorite dessert. Let’s just hope I don’t get any belly aches from the Perdomo Habano Maduro.

This cigar stands out. All you need is George Washington’s face on the label and it will look just like a dollar bill. On the bottom of the cigar right above the foot, there’s a small version of the main label with “Maduro” written in the middle. Overall, it’s a great presentation and it will stand out when you see it at the store.

On the sniffles’, I got a Wet Woody smell on the wrapper and the foot smelled more like Sweet Leather. The pre-draw had a very Peppery taste and left plenty of it on my palate. I was really excited about this cigar and I didn’t waste much time on anything else.

Leather sprinkled with Lemon Drops, that’s what my taste buds picked up as I started smoking. It then leaves you with a delicious aftertaste of Chocolate on your palate. As I made my way towards the label, I picked up some Cream mixed with what seem to be Light Dirt. Yes, my taste buds get crazy from time to time, but I have to be honest and tell you exactly what I picked up. Don’t get me wrong, It’s not a bad taste at all, its very delicious. And like a great Maduro should, this cigar gives you tons of Leather and Chocolate through out the entire cigar. The Lemon, Cream and Light Dirt flavors I mentioned earlier are just an extra bonus. It’s like extra sugar to your cup of coffee or some extra cherry’s on top of your sundae. In other words, its gooooooooooooooooooooood …. really gooooooooooooooooooood.

I also have to mention one thing. It’s amazing to me how full and rich of flavors this cigar is, but at the same time it’s also very soft and light. I hope that doesn’t confuse you to much, but just smoke it and you’ll see what I mean.

If the flavors weren’t enough, I got a perfect burn along with a sweet leather aroma. No touch ups, no un-wrapping, just perfect from the foot to the cap. Once again Perdomo has not let me down, by giving me a great quality cigar.

Ladies and Gentleman, this cigar is fantastic and I recommend this cigar to any Mild, Medium and Full body smokers. It looks big bad and tough, but its not. It’s mild, sweet and delicious. The Perdomo Habano Maduro is one of the best Maduro cigars I have smoked to date.

Final Note: It has to be said and im saying it right now! PERDOMO CIGARS ARE UNDERRATED. It’s time to bring some light to Perdomo and guess who’s going to do it? Me! I know no one remembers 3rd, 4th and 5th place, but in a competition of thousands, they should be remembered!
